Job overview

Senior Specialised Dental Nurse to work predominantly within the Orthodontic Department

As a Qualified Senior Specialised Dental Nurse you will be responsible for supporting the Orthodontic Department service in ensuring that our service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. You will be part of a motivated Dental Team delivering excellent patient care.

We treat adults and children with a wide range of Oral  Maxillofacial/Restorative/Orthodontic conditions.

The post holder is required to hold a recognised Dental Nursing qualification, be GDC registered.

You must be able to prepare, organise and maintain highest standards of care in the clinical environment for Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Orthodontics and  Restorative dentistry. You should be flexible with a professional manner and possess excellent communication skills. You will work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team ensuring that the needs of the patients are placed at the centre of care delivery. In return we will encourage your professional development by ensuring you gain experience in all aspects of our service, whilst enhancing your skills and knowledge through a personal development plan with access to educational resources both locally and beyond. You will be required to work at both Royal Stoke and County Hospitals, some evening and weekend work may be required

Main duties of the job

Essential requirement for post: General Dental Council Registered Dental Nurse

We are seeking to recruit a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Specialised Dental Nurse to work predominantly within the Orthodontic Department, the applicant must hold –

  • The British National examining board for dental surgery assistants’ certificate / NEBDN / NVQ Level 3 Certificate in Dental Nursing,
  • Certificate in Dental Radiography
  • Care and recovery of the conscious sedated patient NEBDN or recognised post qualification or Oral Health Education Certificate post registration qualification. 

Band: Band 5 
This is a band 4 post until such time as the post holder gains 2 years’ experience within the department and attains 2 of the 3 post registration 
qualifications outlined in the job specs. Those post registration qualifications must be attained and utilised within the department in order 
for progression to band 5 to occur.

This is a multidisciplinary department which requires a Senior Specialised Dental Nurse to work within the three specialities Oral Maxillofacial, Orthodontic and Restorative providing nurse led clinics. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be reliable, highly motivated using their own initiative and work well within a team. They will need to have a supportive, caring attitude and be committed to providing the highest level of care to our patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Dental Radiography
  • Plus one further qualification either.... Oral Health Education Certificate or Care and recovery of the conscious sedated patient
  • NEBDN Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing
  • Registered with the General Dental Council.
Desirable criteria
  • Orthodontic Nursing Certificate.
  • Implant Nursing Certificate
  • Level 1 (Core) Training in Dental CBCT Certificate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience and relevant knowledge in specific specialist areas of Maxillofacial, Orthodontics and Restorative.
  • NHS General Dental Practice or Dental Hospital experience
  • Knowledge of confidentiality / Data Protection Act.
  • Ability to prioritise appropriately and work with minimal supervision
  • High standard of chair side nursing
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Basic computer literacy, including confidence using a PC and handheld devices to record patient information
  • Competent domestic skills, including cleaning and organisation
  • Well motivated
  • Commitment to working with the multidisciplinary team
  • Prepared to work across the departments/sites
  • Evidence of continual professional development
  • Flexible with working hours
