Job overview

The Royal Stoke University Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic dietetic assistant to join our renal dietetic team.

UHNM renal department provides care to patients with kidney disease across both Staffordshire and South Cheshire areas. The renal department at the University Hospitals of North Midlands has 11 Nephrologists and is supported by many clinical nurse specialists. The team covers CKD, haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, transplant as well as the inpatient ward.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will have a passion to work with renal patients, demonstrate excellent communication skills and work within an MDT. There may be an opportunity in the future to train as a dietitian through the apprentice route, if previous qualifications meet entrance requirements.

The post holder may need to work across multi-sites with the Dietitian, the main unit (Royal Stoke ) and satellite units (County and Crewe). You may take part with support, in patient education events, staff teaching and support the team in audits and service developments. This post is ideal for someone wishing to develop their skills within a specialist area working closely within the renal MDT

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Grade c/ level 4 or above in Maths/ English/Science.
  • BTEC/ NVQ level 3 in a health/ social care or science subject or equivalent
  • Able to demonstrate good levels of literacy and numeracy.


Essential criteria
  • Previous Experience working as part of a team
  • Working with people face to face and over the telephone.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS.
  • Interest/Experience in Renal patients

Skills, Ability, Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Interest in people, health, food, hospital nutrition.
  • Interest in enhancing nutrition knowledge/ experience
  • Good written communication.
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical system knowledge e.g. MEDWAY, Medisec, Iportal

  • Respectful of patients and their needs
  • Access to own car for work purposes and hold a full UK driving licence
